DONATE TO the NELSON/BAILEY LOG HOUSE

Something WORTH SAVING

The Nelson/Bailey log home was built 170 years ago by Norwegian immigrant craftsmen from the scenic Balestrand region of Norway. After arriving in America in 1857 Colbein and Breta Nelson, with their eight children, lived in a dugout home for eight and a half years before moving into this log home. The log home had been moved two miles by them at one time, It was later attached to their daughter and Bailey son-in law's new home. Then again separated from the house and served as a chicken coop, tobacco processing building and general storage. It has had a challenging existence. With its classic Norwegian construction it has survived and is going through an adaptive restoration. With your help it will become an exhibit building paying tribute to the history of Norwegian immigration with a strong emphasis in the scenic romantic art Norway is known for.
